SVT Nyheter ist der Nachrichtendienst von Sveriges Television AB (SVT), Schwedens nationaler öffentlich-rechtlicher Fernsehsender, der 1956 seine Sendungen startete und 1979 als eigenständige Fernsehsender gegründet wurde. SVT ist nicht direkt im Besitz der Regierung, sondern einer unabhängigen Stiftung, Förvaltningsstiftelsen för Sveriges Radio, Sveriges Television och Sveriges Utbildningsradio, die auch Schwedens öffentliche Rundfunk- und Bildungsfernsehsender hält. Die Vorstandsmitglieder der Stiftung werden von politischen Parteien nominiert und offiziell von der Regierung ernannt, aber die Struktur soll den Sender von direkter staatlicher oder parteilicher Leitung isolieren.
Finanzierung
SVT wird durch eine öffentliche Dienstleistungsgebühr (offentlig serviceavgift) finanziert - eine Einkommensgebundene Abgabe, die seit 2019 von der schwedischen Steuerbehörde erhoben wird und die die ältere Fernsehlizenzgebühr ersetzt.
